Swiss-PdbViewer 4.1.0 Download Publisher Review:

Whats new in version 4.1.0:
  • The major change compared to 4.04 is the abandon of the default non openGL rendering mode which was causing various color issues on recent Apple hardware.
  • New tool: Possibility to detect hydrophobic patches, see tutorial
  • New tool: Detection of grooves (open cavities)
  • New tool: Detection of contact surfaces, see tutorial
  • Added an atom radius table in the usrstuff directory. This can be modified to override the default size of the spheres drawn on screen for a given atom type.

Publisher review:
Swiss-PdbViewer is a free and cross-platform scientific software application for analyzing multiple proteins concurrently. You will be able to view and analyze protein and nucleic acid structures from a friendly user-interface.

In order to compare the active sites of the proteins, they can be superimposed. Moreover, you can easily calculate amino acid mutations, H-bonds angles and distances between atoms.

Using Swiss-PdbViewer, you can also connect to the Swiss-Model, which is an automated homology modeling server. Because it is possible to thread a protein primary sequence onto a 3D template, the amount of work is greatly reduced.

Additionally, you can immediately check how well the threaded protein will be accepted by the reference structure before submitting a request.

Another important feature is the ability to read electron density maps and to build into the density. Residues can also be mutated. Swiss-PdbViewer can even produce ray-traced quality images by generating POV-Ray scenes from the current view.
